Metallurgical Engineering
The main objectives of the Metallurgical Engineering are to be able to carry out theoretical studies and practical activities in order to extract, produce, develop, improve and assess the quality of our materials, including metals, ceramic, and composite materials that are used in a wide range of applications. Material Engineering produce materials with special mechanical, electrical, and chemical properties by conducting research on metals, ceramics, and composite materials. Selection of materials for new applications is also one of the capabilities of Metallurgical Engineering. Today, by manipulating materials at the atomic scale in a variety of ways in nanotechnology materials, new developments in material engineering have made it possible to achieve intended properties and capabilities.
At present, the department of Material and Metallurgical Engineering has admitted graduate students for Identification and Selection of Metal Materials since 2012 and undergraduate students for Metallurgical Engineering as an active department of Faculty of Engineering of University of Kashan with 5 active faculty members. The department has currently the major equipment related to metallography, heat treatment and mechanical properties laboratories, including polisher, optical microscopes, electric furnaces, hardness and microhardness testers.
The region of Kashan, with its numerous industrial towns as well as many industrial enterprises and factories in its area, needs specialists in this field. The Department of Metallurgy and Materials of University of Kashan has provided a suitable space for research activities aimed at educating qualified specialists in the fields of metallurgical engineering. Furthermore, extensive cooperation background with various industries of the country such as steel, aluminum, copper, iron and steel industries, metal forming (forging, rolling, extrusion and stretching metals), welding, car industry, and mineral, refractory, ceramic, and etc. industries to meet the educational and research needs.
Materials and Metallurgy Engineering is a branch of engineering science that works extensively on various engineering materials such as metals, alloys, ceramics, electronic materials, and biometrics. In this field, the link between the structure of materials, their manufacturing processes, their properties, etc. are analyzed and has a close relationship with mechanical engineering and other engineering fields, chemistry and physics.
Due to the widespread use of materials, especially metals, alloys and ceramics, in the manufacturing of industrial components, the employment of graduates of this field in various industries is possible. Companies and large factories such as steel, smelting, copper, aluminum, car, aerospace, military and nuclear industries, petroleum, petrochemical, construction, mines, cement industry, etc., can attract graduates of the field of Material and metallurgy engineering. In addition to working in these industries, graduates of this field can also work in research centers related to this field.
